Funeral arrangements prior to registration in Eastleigh

You can make funeral arrangements before registration, if you have an idea of what you would like for your loved one’s funeral we can start making the enquires and arrangements on your behalf, especially if you have preferred date, day or time.

Registration of Death

If the death happened at Home, Nursing or Residential Home you need to obtain the Medical Cause of Death Certificate before booking an appointment to register the death. You will need to contact the deceased doctor’s surgery to see when you can collect this. The appointment with the registrar needs to be made within 5 working days. If you require assistance with transport to the registrars we may be able to help you.

If the death happened at a hospice or hospital you need to contact them to make an appointment with the bereavement office to see when you can obtain the medical cause of death certificate. The appointment with the registrar needs to be made with the registrar within 5 working days. This may be excused and prolonged if the registrar sees a reason to.

 

Registrar in Eastleigh

The registrar will require the following information about the deceased:

  • Full name
  • Place and date of birth
  • Place and date of death
  • Full address of where the deceased lived
  • Maiden name if applicable
  • Occupation or former occupation if retired
  • Date of birth of surviving spouse if applicable
  • Full name and current address of the person registering
  • Reason for qualification of registering

The person registering the death must qualify as one of the following:

  • A relative
  • A person present  at the death
  • A person making the funeral arrangements
  • A person who found the deceased
  • A person in charge of the deceased that is responsible for the payment of the funeral for example an executor or solicitor

The Registrar will issue will a Certificate of Burial or Cremation (more commonly known as the GREEN FORM), this is the given to the funeral director as soon as possible. This form enable the burial or cremation to take place, it is given to the authority where the funeral is taking place for example, the cemetery or crematorium. Without this form the funeral cannot lawfully take place. The registrar will give you the opportunity to obtain certified copies of the Death Certificate. Usually we recommend you buy six as you will need these for Bank, Building Societies, Pensions, Probate, Insurance etc.
