Eastleigh funeral director’s advice on what to do when someone dies
An Expected Death
When the death of your loved one happens at home, you need to contact their GP at their doctor’s surgery or ask for the doctor who last attended the deceased; alternatively if the death occurs out of hours an on call duty doctor will come out to the home and confirm the death. After the doctor has been and you have contacted us we will be able to come and bring your loved one into our care to our private chapel of rest when instructed to do so. We will give you any support and assistance you need at this stage.
When the death takes place at a Nursing or Residential Home, the staff will call the doctor and organise for the doctor to confirm death.
If the death took place at a hospital or hospice the doctor that was caring and attending the deceased will confirm the death.

An Unexpected Death
If the death was unexpected, accidental or in unusual circumstances, you need to contact the police who will come out and may arrange for the Coroner’s Officers to take the deceased into their care until a cause of death has been established. The Coroner’s office will contact you when this has been ascertained and ask you to instruct a funeral director of your choice (you can notify the funeral director of your choice prior to this if you would like to). You do not have to use the contracted Coroner’s Funeral Directors.
